CORALVILLE -- You probably know Ava Hocker first as a runner, whether it's 60 feet at a time on the softball diamond or 400-meter bursts on a polyurethane track.
She has basketball speed, too, and it ignited Williamsburg's late sprint to victory.
Hocker scored six of her team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, and Class 3A seventh-ranked Williamsburg edged No. 10 West Delaware, 57-54, in a Wamac Conference interdivisional girls' basketball dandy Tuesday night at Xtream Arena.
"It's fun to watch her get out and go," Raiders Coach Stephanie Dacey said. "She has that downhill speed."
A sophomore, Hocker has been a key member -- primarily as a pinchrunner -- on Williamsburg's back-to-back state-championship softball teams, and was a state placewinner in track as a freshman.
"Track is at the top as my favorite, then basketball and softball are neck and neck," Hocker said. "I like volleyball a lot, too.
"(Dacey) finds ways for me to use my speed, and I really like to get up on girls defensively.
"We want to make it to state. Softball has been there a lot. It's time to bring another sport up there, too."
Williamsburg (4-0) got out to a 17-9 lead, but West Delaware scored the next 13 points, and it was back and forth the rest of the way.
The Hawks (3-1) took their final lead, 48-46, on Josie McMahon's basket with 7:10 remaining. Hocker scored six points as the Raiders answered with an 11-2 surge for a 57-50 advantage.
West Delaware scored the next four points, then missed a chance to tie in the final seconds.
Carly Rich and Zoe Allen added 13 points apiece for the Raiders. Rich made five steals.
Brooke Krogmann paced West Delaware with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, but the Raiders held her to five points in the final three quarters.
"She's a force to be reckoned with, for sure," Dacey said. "We wanted to get in her space and make sure her shots were contested."
Grant Hocker scored 18 points, Dylan Weisskopf added 14, and the Raiders (1-1) hit 10 of 15 free throws in the final 3:51 to earn their first win of the season.
