Baron Corbin thanks fans, agrees 'WWE fumbled the bag' letting him go

Sean Rueter has been thinking too much about pro wrestling since at least WrestleMania I, and blogging about it for SBNation & Cageside Seats since around WrestleMania 28.

Of the three three wrestlers WWE unexpectedly parted ways with last Friday (Nov. 1), the company's decision not to sign Baron Corbin to a new contract may have been the most surprising.

Corbin is, generally speaking, one of the wrestle web's least favorite performers. But even his biggest hater would admit he's been a steady hand for WWE throughout his 12 years with the company. He's known as a very safe worker, and has shown a willingness to do what he can with whatever creative he's handed. The former NFL hopeful is a United States champion, Money in the Bank winner, and King of the Ring. He added the NXT Tag titles to his resume last year as part of a very popular tag team with Bron Breakker that helped ensure Breakker's main roster launch was a success.

Reports about Corbin's final days with the company make it even more of a head-scratcher. Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp shared that Corbin was one of several stars who filmed promotional material for WWE & Netflix's partnership on Oct. 27, just days before his contract expired and was not renewed. Corbin responded to the report on X/Twitter, saying "That is a fact."

Many have expressed their confusion and frustration with WWE's decision, including a fan on Instagram who commented on one of Corbin's cooking posts to say, "WWE fumbled the bag letting you go". Corbin replied, "I appreciate that and feel the same".

Today, Corbin (real name Tom Pestock) posted a message of gratitude for all the messages he's been receiving since the news broke with WWE in Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel. Excellent use of a Nic Cage/Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent GIF, too.

Let us know what you think of WWE's decision to move on from Baron Corbin in the comments below. And whether you consider him a King or a Bum Ass, join us in wishing Corbin the best in whatever comes next.
