The review
The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP is a dual-mode monitor designed for gamers, featuring a 32-inch screen that delivers content in 4K UHD at 240 Hz and switches to Full HD at 480 Hz with the touch of a button. This monitor offers a combination of high-end features tailored for both competitive and casual gamers. Built around LG's W-OLED panel, the PG32UCDP includes an improved RGWB subpixel layout and Micro Lens Array (MLA+) technology. These enhancements contribute to the monitor's peak brightness, contrast, and fast response times. The 31.5-inch display provides a native 4K resolution, supporting a refresh rate of 240 Hz, and an additional mode allows it to switch to 1080p resolution at an even faster 480 Hz refresh rate. The PG32UCDP is equipped with Adaptive-Sync and Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technologies, helping to reduce screen tearing and motion blur, making it particularly appealing to esports players. The monitor also supports HDR400 and a wide color gamut, enhancing the overall visual experience. The 4K UHD resolution displayed on the 31.5-inch viewable screen of the ASUS PG32UCDP provides a high pixel density of approximately 140 pixels per inch (PPI). This results in ample screen real estate with sharp details and clear text. Some users might prefer scaling with this pixel density, but 100% scaling is also usable since the text remains readable. The PG32UCDP monitor stands out with its ability to switch resolution to 1080p and double its refresh rate to 480Hz. While several monitors have reached 480Hz, and some 1080p models even push 500Hz, the ability to toggle refresh rates remains a novel feature in gaming monitors. By enabling the Frame Rate Boost in the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, the monitor shifts to the 1080p 480Hz mode. This higher refresh rate significantly improves motion clarity compared to 240Hz, making it particularly suitable for competitive FPS games. Activating Frame Rate Boost mode is straightforward, requiring just two clicks of the monitor's joystick, delivering a highly responsive and clear gaming experience.
Another key feature of the PG32UCDP is its WOLED panel. Unlike QD-OLED panels, which the PG32UCDM uses, WOLEDs include a dedicated white LED. WOLED panels generate less heat, potentially leading to slower degradation compared to traditional OLED or QD-OLED panels. However, WOLEDs are often considered less bright and may have less vivid, accurate colors. Brightness certainly has not been an issue and still left us impressed, though color accuracy has been a challenge.
The PG32UCDP features a flat 16:9, 32-inch WOLED panel. The white LED in WOLED panels contributes to increased brightness, with this model reaching over 700 nits in HDR mode (for a 25% window). In contrast, QD screens typically achieve around 450 nits in similar tests, giving the PG32UCDP a distinct brightness advantage. The PG32UCDP, as a ROG Swift display, comes equipped with an extensive range of ASUS features. The monitor covers nearly 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and includes an accurate sRGB mode. Users can also control dimming with a constant brightness option, and HDR adjustments are available. Though just banned from Steam, Gamers will appreciate the complete set of ASUS GamePlus features, including AI crosshairs, sniper mode, night vision, FPS counter, timers, stopwatch, and alignment marks. This monitor is aimed at gamers who demand versatility and high performance, but it comes at a premium price of approximately $1,500.
