That Friend, per its synopsis, follows the comedic misadventures of Sabrina, who is living in New York and dreams of building her own media empire. The audiobook follows her as she navigates her new career goals, along with friendship and dating in the city.
That Friend's main cast will include The Prom's Jo Ellen Pellma, Aladdin's Sonya Balsara and Mare of Easttown's Kiah McKirnan as Sabrina's three best friends Alice, Varsha and Kat respectively. "That Friend is all about bringing the world Sabrina's created on TikTok to life in a more expansive, exciting way than ever before -- and casting was a huge part of that," said Lara Blackman, Simon & Schuster Audio's senior acquisitions editor, in a statement shared with PEOPLE. "While Sabrina tends to star in videos on her own, the audiobook is full of one-of-a-kind characters that each bring something unique to the story, and we're lucky to have found the perfect voice for each with this talented group of actors."
Brier announced that she would be writing and publishing That Friend earlier this year with Variety. The comedian, who has garnered over 83 million likes on TikTok and who appeared on the Emmy-winning sitcom Abbott Elementary, told the outlet that creating the audiobook was a new way to share her comedy with her audience.
"I'm so excited to offer a fresh, new landing spot for my incredible fans to be able to experience my work," Brier told Variety in a statement. "That Friend works so well in audio because the setting, New York, is a city of multitaskers. It really appealed to me to work in a format that moves with you as you go about your day. The whole premise of That Friend is really about the listener and the shared experience of being able to laugh at the complexity and intensity of loving other people."
